Which size should I choose?

Baby 0-5 months

We do not recommend the use of weighted products for babies under 6 months. This applies to weighted blankets, weighted sleeping bags, weighted teddy bears, etc., regardless of the baby's weight and size.

We have taken this position based on the Danish Safety Technology Authority's investigation of weighted blankets in 2023, and in this connection the recommendation from the Department of Forensic Pathology at the University of Copenhagen, Institute of Forensic Medicine, which writes: " The use of a weighted blanket for children under 6 months will increase the risk that the weight of the weighted blanket may make it difficult for a healthy baby to breathe ."

The baby size is a suitable size for use in a stroller and on the lap and is easy to handle when moving baby from one place to another.

The baby size also has a weight that is possible for the child to kick off on their own. Most customers have good results from the baby size up until the age of 18-24 months.

Children of this age – especially children between 1 and 3 years old – often sleep very restlessly, which makes it necessary to have a duvet of a certain size so that it does not fall off too quickly.

However, the weighted blanket has been shown to calm physical restlessness and promote deeper and more restful sleep, and as a result, our customers experience that the child's tendency, for example, to kick the blanket off, is reduced.

The junior size should NOT be used for children under 12 months.

Teenagers 13-19 years old

For teenagers, we offer a selection of duvets in different sizes and weights.
You can choose between duvets in sizes 140 x 200 cm. or 140 x 220 cm. depending on your child's height. We also recommend choosing a duvet that corresponds to approximately 10% of your child's body weight for optimal comfort.

"No thanks" to polyester

At LALATOTO we have made a conscious choice to say no to polyester and instead use only natural materials such as kapok.

This makes many processes in both the development and production phases more complicated and laborious, not to mention that the natural choice is unfortunately also often more expensive. But for us it's still a no-brainer - it's about taking care of both your family and our environment.

Polyester is a synthetic material made from plastic through a chemical process. Polyester is not breathable and can also release microplastics into the environment. In contrast, kapok is a 100% natural and sustainable material, grown without the use of chemicals, and is both hypoallergenic, breathable and temperature-regulating. It provides a healthier sleeping environment without the risk of unnecessary chemicals and microplastics.

Temperature is everything

The vast majority of toddlers get hot in their sleep. They may wake up with a wet neck or even refuse to sleep with a duvet. Being too hot is an underestimated factor in sleep disturbance. That's why we're particularly happy with Kapok, which is incredibly effective at regulating temperature.

Alternative to a ball quilt

What are the benefits of a gravity mattress?

A weighted blanket gives the child gentle pressure on their entire body. The blanket wraps the child's body tightly, so that their arms and legs also find peace - like a swaddle, but without being restrictive.

A weighted blanket is effective in all sleeping positions. Whether your child prefers to sleep on their back, side or stomach, the weight stimulates them just as well. Toddlers in particular tend to toss and turn in their sleep, but the weight and envelopment from the blanket can help prevent the child from waking themselves up or kicking the blanket off.

A weighted blanket is also easy to use. It is simply placed over the child, just like a regular down blanket. At the same time, it is easy to control the temperature without disturbing sleep. If the child gets too hot, you can gently ventilate the

My baby is hot! Can we still use your gravity blanket?

Yes! Many babies and toddlers - and even adults - are naturally warm during sleep, which is why we have been careful to select materials that are breathable and temperature-regulating. Kapok in particular is extremely effective at ensuring a comfortable temperature during sleep.

An underestimated factor for restful and deep sleep is precisely maintaining a comfortable temperature throughout the night, which is why it is so important to pay close attention to the materials that make up your child's or your own sleeping environment.

In addition, Kapok does not absorb moisture, but instead conducts sweat away from the body and into the room.

What is the gravity mattress made of?

All of our weighted blankets are produced in Oeko-tex certified cotton, which ensures that the textile is free of substances harmful to health.

The duvet's filling consists of kapok and glass beads. We have carefully selected Kapok as a filling material for its sleep- and health-promoting properties:

Kapok is hypoallergenic as dust mites cannot live in it.
Kapok does not absorb moisture, but instead conducts sweat away from the body and into the room.
Kapok is ideal for sleeping environments, as neither bacteria, mold nor pesticides can live in Kapok.
When you choose products with Kapok instead of polyester, you protect both people and the environment from microplastics.

Does the duvet make noise?

Our weighted blanket neither rattles, crackles nor makes noise. It was important for us to develop an almost silent blanket, as especially sensitive babies and toddlers aged 1-3 are easily disturbed and insecure by extraneous noises.

The LALATOTO weighted duvet is therefore no more noisy than a regular down duvet, and therefore does not disturb either you or your sleeping child.
